Question: What are the latest trends in bathtubs and showers?
answer: Bath and kitchen design trends are constantly evolving. When it’s time to refresh the spaces in your home, consider these latest designs.
An old trend that is gaining new popularity is freestanding bathtubs. There are many variations of this popular bathtub. Some recreate old bathtubs and bathtub fillers (faucets), while others aim for a modern design that brings a touch of sophistication to your bathroom. Hardware, namely faucets and drains, tends to primarily have a brushed nickel look. However, matte black is increasingly appearing.
Showers are often large walk-in styles, replacing older tub and shower combinations. Gone are the days of the 36” x 36” shower stall. New showers tend to be three times his size. Showerheads have been modified to include traditional handheld showerheads and rain showerheads. A rain showerhead simulates rain by sitting directly above your head in the shower. Body spray nozzles deliver water horizontally and are even more often installed.

Shower walls tend to have smaller, larger tile designs with fewer grout joints. Current trending tiles are typically 24 inches by 48 inches. Tile designs are found throughout the board, from colorful stone simulations to more subdued monochromes that lean toward a more sophisticated look. The benefit of using fewer and more tightly grouted joints is that they are easier to clean. Shower enclosures are usually frameless clear glass, although some people prefer the look of frosted or rain glass. Glass surrounds include glass doors, sometimes with hinges, but the barn door style trend is becoming more common.
Curbless or zero entry are also popular, eliminating tripping hazards and moving closer to universal design concepts.
Q: I want to update the cabinets in my bathroom and kitchen. What styles are popular now?
answer: Bath cabinets, including storage and vanities, are trending along with kitchen cabinet designs. Shaker style cabinets are very popular. Nowadays, the most common color is white. Bathrooms and kitchens can utilize similar cabinet styles and countertop materials, but they don’t have to.
Kitchen trends often pair painted cabinets with Shaker-style doors. The quality of the cabinet is very important. Drawers require dovetail side connections. Another nice feature is that both the doors and drawers have soft-close fittings.
As for the hardware, matte black is complemented by honey gold or champagne gold colors for an elegant look.
In the meantime, install your new backsplash. Tile is the most popular choice for this practical and decorative part of the kitchen. There are literally hundreds of color and style choices. A wide range of color choices will give your kitchen a unique “wow!” element.
Additionally, the trend for kitchen flooring is towards darker colors. Porcelain tiles, which imitate wooden planks, are very popular and create a pleasant contrast with bright cabinets and countertops.
Q: Which type of countertop is trending right now, granite or quartz?
answer: Quartz tops are noticeably more trending than granite. Quartz is easier to maintain than granite, which requires frequent sealing. Honey gold or champagne gold hardware is nicely complemented by light-colored quartz countertops. Quartz’s color consistency is why most people choose that combination.
Q: Do you have any advice for hiring a contractor to update my kitchen and bathroom?
answer: Be sure to choose a contractor that is licensed, bonded, and insured by the Arizona Registry of Contractors (ROC).
When considering a kitchen or bath remodeling company, it is advantageous to choose a company that provides its own design services. 3D design capabilities are common today. The drawings created are very helpful in understanding what the new project will look like. And if the company does most of the construction work in-house, that’s an even bigger benefit.
But that’s not all. Read reviews on his website of potential companies. The number and content of reviews posted can tell you about a company’s culture. That is the key to choosing a strong company when carrying out your project.
