Is it helpful to work with an interior designer or seek professional advice?
It’s best to think of interior designers like therapists. An interior designer can help you get where you want to go by offering some helpful advice. You may feel like you have too many options, but they can help you with that. Or maybe you’re not scaling well, and we can help you with that as well. Maybe you don’t have the mental capacity to build a completely new home from scratch. Whatever helps, they can be an invaluable resource.
What are the signs that a certain style may not be right for you?
If it doesn’t cause you joy, it’s not for you – or if it makes you worry or just makes you uncomfortable. For example, if someone gave Robin a minimalist house to live in, she might appreciate it as a great design, but she would just feel uncomfortable. Similarly, if you install Emma in Versailles, she will never be able to switch off.
Finally, how can you take the time to refine your interior style while remaining true to yourself?
Home is a journey, not a destination. Inevitably, your tastes will change over the next decade, and so will your home. Remember to bring your decision-making back to the core idea of how you need the space to feel. Once you know how to tune into that emotional need, finding a way to get there becomes more intuitive. Learn to flex that design muscle with more confidence and your home will start to feel more authentic.
