Founded in Geneva in 1978 by Mike and Susan Haas, Geneva Design House is located in their home (located at 210 W. State Street, also known as the “Clocktower Building”) for 25 years. One of Geneva’s most iconic buildings has been sold.
The retail business, which sells fine furniture, luxury carpets, home decor and “eternal flowers,” will move into a warehouse facility located directly behind the storefront. The retailer is currently finishing its current stock and curating future stock as the brand’s new “Design Warehouse” evolves.
The business started out in the 1970s as Everlasting Flowers, a store that sold beautifully designed artificial flower arrangements that (as one early customer noted) looked “more lifelike than real flowers.” In 1985, it moved to the 200 block of State Street. Opposite your current location.
That’s when the Haas family added fresh flowers and area rugs to their inventory. A few years later, they branched out into an independent flower business, which eventually became Town & Country Gardens, which continues to operate next door to the building where they sell it today. By 1998, they became better known as his Strawflower Shop, which closed that year and moved to its current location, the former Landfield’s Furniture flagship store.
“Geneva has a lot of history over the past 50 years,” Mike Haas said. “We look forward to establishing the next chapter in making Geneva Design House an important part of the residential interiors of the western suburbs for many years to come.”
Kelsey Haas, Mike and Susan’s daughter, is a key part of the new business plan.
“Our customer base loves what we offer, and we will continue to serve them with great interior design,” said Kelsey Haas, general manager of the new warehouse store. “But we also plan to evolve our products to feature items that will appeal to new families moving to the Fox Valley. As a millennial, I have a different design approach than my parents. , we are excited to work together to offer design options that have even broader appeal. ”
Mike Haas says the business has been moving in that direction for several years.
“This is something we’ve been working on with the name change that we started implementing over three years ago,” Mike Haas said. “Elegant, high-quality furniture, rugs, and home décor that you can’t find anywhere else. We think now is the right time to pursue this path.”
While Geneva Design House continues to accept new orders, it is also offering discounts on floor items in an effort to sell off inventory in preparation for a pending move scheduled for early summer. You can expect up to 50% off storewide in June. For more information, local residents should check social media notifications or stop by the store.
