Frances Arlene (Knight) Clem of Branch, Arkansas passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023, after several months of poor health. She passed away at the age of 75. She was born on November 3, 1947 in Scranton, Arkansas. Arlene (as she preferred to be called) moved with her parents to Corona, California, when she was young. When she was six years old, she lost both her mother and her father tragically. Her grandparents then took custody of her and her two-year-old brother, John, and moved them to Paris, Arkansas. She attended high school in Paris, from which she graduated in 1964. In December of the same year, she married her husband of 58 years, Donald Lee Clem, of Branch.
Arlene is perhaps best known for her 38-year career as a cook in the County Line School cafeteria. From her joining the company in 1974 to her retirement in 2012, she faithfully and enthusiastically fed multiple generations of hungry schoolchildren, including her two sons. After her retirement, she enjoyed attending her craft shows, collecting numerous quilts and rabbit-themed home decor items, and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church branch.
She was predeceased by her parents Arliss and Oma Jean Knight, her grandparents and guardians John Knight and Julia Knight, and her brother John Knight. She is survived by her husband Donald, her two sons Arliss and James, her daughter-in-law Allen, her granddaughters and her husband Makayla Piper and Preston Piper. She was a loving, devoted and kind woman. She will be greatly missed by those who called her her wife, her mother, and her friend.
The family would like to thank the staff at Greenhurst Nursing Home in Charleston for their loving care and consideration during her final days.
The wake will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and the funeral will be held the following day, March 4, at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be held at Lawler Funeral Home in Paris, Arkansas.
Pallbearers will be Dale Knight, Kenny Cameron, Griffin Frederick, Gary Enrique, Wendall Johnson and Reggie Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be past and present cooks from County Line School.
