As Christina Hall continues to renovate more and more homes, it is inevitable that they will have common characteristics. One element that design professionals tend to remove from their clients’ homes, especially those with children, is a kitchen island with built-in cooking equipment.
In the latest episode, Christina on the coast, Christina asked homeowners what they didn’t like about their kitchens. Since the family loves to host pool parties and entertain, the couple doesn’t like having a microwave on the kitchen island and would like to put the microwave on one of the walls of the room so they can use the island space to arrange food. said. guest. “Well, I don’t like island pastures,” Christina replied. “That’s dangerous too.”
“Especially for the kids,” added Christina’s fellow designer and project manager James Bender. This design is less suitable for families with children who often sit down to eat or do homework, as the burner is easily accessible when sitting on the island.
This isn’t the first time Christina was introduced to a kitchen island with a built-in range during the fifth season of the HGTV show. In episode 9, her customer had it too. “I think it’s always very dangerous for small children to be on an island like this with a firing range in the middle,” Christina told the couple.
“The space is also minimal,” one homeowner replied, before requesting a larger island so the family could actually sit and enjoy a meal.
Having more real estate taken up by cookware reduces the overall benefit of a kitchen island and makes it difficult to use the counter space for food preparation or additional seating. In some cases, it may be best to avoid that design or skip the kitchen island altogether.
